The Red Planet

$95.00 12" x 12" Acrylic on wood panel. This piece was inspired by the amazing rover images of Mars released by NASA in the past year or so. I began painting this piece specifically after watching the movie "The Martian," in which the main character is left stranded on the vast, stunning, red landscape of Mars.

Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy

$175.00 24" x 36" Acrylic on plywood. In December of 2014, a large Luna Moth flew up and landed on my window. I thought it very strange to see a Luna Moth in the daytime and in December. It flew away in such a funny zigzag pattern that I realized it must have been cold. I started imaging what this moth's trail might look like and the green stokes of my palette knife almost happened on their own. Maybe this was a tiny Christmas fairy, on it's way to give children sweet holiday dreams...

Spires

$95.00 10" x 13" - Acrylic paint on watercolor paper. Mounted and framed. This painting (along with it's pair - 'Mountain Spires') is comprised of about 12 layers of paint finished with acrylic paint pens. I was never happy with either piece until I painted the royal blue on that neon orange. The red adds definition and accents the deep textures.

Event Horizon

$850.00 36" x 48" I painted this golden, blue and teal background and there is sat... until I painted the large pink/red swirl. After several additional layers and additions I felt the push and pull of the vortex on the land below. Very much inspired by the imagery in the movie, "Interstellar," I was reminded of the event horizon the main character witnesses as he slips into the black hole. The piece has been professionally double-matted in a 3" wood frame, under glass.

$95.00 5" x 24" - Acrylic paint on museum board. Mounted in a floating frame. This was my first painting utilizing the acrylic paint pens. Much of it is doodles, but the composition was pulled together once I began using the white to outline, define and accent.

Alien Sunset

$145.00 18" x 24" - Acrylic paint on stretched canvas. I go back and forth about how to display this piece - since it was painted horizontally. Regardless, my eye is constantly drawn to the blue circle and makes me think of what a blue giant star would look like at sunset.

Scene Through A Grove
Scene Through A Grove

$350.00 48" x 30" - Acrylic paint on stretched canvas. The reason I chose the title for this piece is because it's as if you're looking through a rainstorm or through a misty window pane. This is the epitome of spring, in all its wonderful, inspired colors in a rigid vertical framework. I created this piece using only palette knife and many layers of paint, working each into the other colors and letting it dry a little at a time.

$225.00 24" x 36" - Acrylic paint on watercolor paper. Double-matted and framed. This piece was most definitely inspired by 'Dolores Claiborne' one of my favorite Stephen King books. This, I imagine, was the last thing Joe St. George ever saw...

Flamigos Down

$650.00 30" x 40" - Acrylic paint on stretched canvas. This painting was completed in two parts. I laid down white, yellow, red and pink paint and began to work them into a patterned background, however, I had just watched a documentary on flamingos several days earlier and became inspired. I began reworking the paint into the feather pattern you see. It was only after it dried that I came back and added the accents in blue, and gold.

$95.00 8" x 10" - Acrylic paint and gesso on glass. Wire frame mounted. This is the front of a painting on glass - the back is the next image. The two images are quite different. I have mounted a wire hanger to this piece instead of a frame, so as to be able to see both sides. This would be a nice piece to hang in a window.

This broad collection initially began with the idea of juxtaposition that I began exploring during my architectural thesis. It is method of color blending and texture building through seemingly rigid patterns and strokes achieving a very textural and complex result. Ranging from various deconstructed views of juxtaposition, certain pieces take on more fluid and unexpected themes while others explore bright and definite concepts. Many of my pieces utilize palette knives creating intriguing variations of thin and thicker lines and strokes giving the compositions edgy and bold aspects. In addition, I enjoy utilizing acrylic paint pens to provide detail and patterning to combine with the broad, bold, colorful strokes sometimes in order to achieve an almost comic-book, graphic-novel style.
